3 Brain Boosters

Posted on

Shopping, menu planning and cooking (or even raw food prep) can sometimes be a bit overwhelming in our busy Palm Beaches lifestyle.

For most people, it’s best to take certain things like making better food choices in bite-sized pieces (no pun intended). Going cold turkey (again no pun) can often be too overwhelming and make you want to quit before you get the ball ball rolling (or dough rolling if you’re making your own bread).
Hope you’re smiling now because smiling is also good for you.

Overall, choosing healthy foods DAILY is what it’s about. It’s ALWAYS about the DAILY habits and routines.

This doesn’t mean that you have to be 100% rigid 100% of the time with your food choices. Go ahead and have that sweet treat once in a while. I like to save mine for what we call “Sweet Sunday.” You can have your own plan—whatever works for YOU.

If you do have that occasional (or weekly) sweet treat, check the ingredients and choose one on the healthier side like something you can find at Whole Foods or Trader Joes (we’ll talk more about sweets another time).

Eating healthier is easier when you simply replace an unhealthy choice with a healthy choice, one day at a time, and before you know it, your fridge and cupboard will be transformed, and so will YOU!

So, here are 3 BRAIN BOOSTERS for cognitive fitness to include in your menu. Try to include them on your next grocery list.

Green Tea

There are some great recipes on eatingwell.com. And Costco has a delicious (and convenient) frozen wild caught salmon (do not buy farm raised fish) marinated with a seasoned glaze. It comes in a package of 6 good-sized servings.

Simply bake the salmon as instructed on the box to PERFECTION! Serve it with chopped fresh kale sauteed in extra virgin olive oil with a bit of finely chopped fresh garlic. Sprinkle it with pink Himalayan sea salt (full of awesome minerals) and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Bon appetit!

Wait about 1.5 hours to let your enzymes work with digestion, and then enjoy a nice cup of green tea with a bit of stevia, and there you go. You’ve boosted your brain function!
